We feel like the key to a great bankers box retention schedule is to keep similar date retention items in the same boxes. I.E. keep all files that have a destroy date of 2022 in the same box. We have a secure client portal where you can electronically update your destroy dates and export and sort accordingly.
A little re-boxing or relabeling may be necessary for later but this will make it easier for you to destroy all boxes confidentially when you are ready. When that time comes you can trust our paper shredding services to take care of those file boxes or medical files when they become eligible for paper shredding. We then will provide you with a certificate of destruction once the shredding service has been completed.
We highly recommend our box storage clients to keep their inventory organized. Delegate your record storage and record retention to a select few individuals in your organization. Organizing can limit and assist determining how many bankers boxes you will need to box up your project for off-site record storage. I often get asked how many files will fit in a bankers box or how many sheets of paper will fit in a file box. The average bankers box or file box will fit approximately 2250 to 2550 sheets of standard office paper. The dimensions of a standard bankers box are 12.5” x 15” x 10” roughly. The boxes we sell will fit roughly 14.5” of linear feet of files per box. There are larger letter size boxes or legal size boxes that we sell that will hold significantly more file space but the standard bankers box is the most common in the paper shredding and record storage industry.
